Through the two stories of scripture about the widows, we learn that we are directed to have faith in God to provide for us. Even though things aren’t quite like they should be, God still takes care of us. Elijah had to tell King Ahab a message of God that brought judgment upon Ahab’s life because of his evil ways. However, because Elijah obeyed and had faith, God provided for him through a ravine and a brook and even a poor widow in a foreign land. We learn from the poor widow who Jesus observed that giving our all takes an act of faith.
Faith is risk taking; risky business. It is a risk to love and dare to have hope.
