Today we think about stewardship, in particular being a church that practices generosity and graciousness. The text from Luke tells a story of a Pharisee and a woman and the ways in which they expressed gratitude and generosity.
Jesus is a guest at a dinner party hosted by the Pharisee Simon. In the midst of the party, a woman from the margins of society, entered into the center of the party and poured oil on Jesus’ feet and wiped her tears that dropped on his feet with her long hair. Simon the host was appalled at the intrusion of this woman and how Jesus allowed and welcomed this act of generosity.
Who are the poor and marginalized and how do we keep them on the margins?
How can we welcome them into the center like Jesus has done?
How can we practice generosity and graciousness to the least and the most?
