We begin a series on the Vice and Virtues when we explore some of the sins as disorientation of love and virtues that give us right orientation of our love. Today’s vice is pride and virtue is humility.

Humility:  Putting God First

Pride seems to be the root of all sin. It’s subtle and not always obvious and appears to be an overabundant love of oneself. We like to be noticed for the good things we do. “Opposite pride is humility. It is a profound recognition of who we are and what we know. It is recognizing that what we know isn’t the end all and be all. Humility reminds us that there is a God and we are not it.”

In Jesus, we see God giving him to the world and Jesus gave himself to all the people around him. We are called to a graciousness; humility and loving God and neighbor go hand in hand. Being humble is not an easy thing. Sometimes we try so hard to be humble that we become proud of being humble.
As we center ourselves in God, we find the humility of life.
